My name is Martin Jan Månsson, and since 2015, I’ve been creating maps of global historical trade routes. In 2025, I launched The Age of Trade with the aim to dig up old travelogues from the 1800’s and for the first time put this information onto maps.
The aim of the project is to uncover the detailed logic behind geography, trade, industry and travel of the entirety of the pre-modern world.
I’m an city planner by day-time, so the making of these maps is a time consuming passion project that takes up much of my free-time. I still choose to make the content available mostly for free, as the content is too interesting not to share. However, it is only thanks to kind donations and print sales of my maps that I can keep going.
